The arrival at Christmas of our three pekin bantams, Betty, Mabel and Daphne was exciting enough. But what we hadn't reckoned on was the gift of an egg quite so soon especially as hens often go off the lay during winter.
My husband, David, discovered in when he locked them up last night and had a quick check in the nesting box - only to find a perfectly formed small egg with a soft as silk shell. We won't be admiring it long as we have promised to make scrambled egg with it for eldest son, Joseph.
The hens have been such a delightful addition to the garden and when they are out and about, pecking around for a little bit of this and that, there is always something amusing that they do to make us smile.
